A CLEAR PROTOCOL SESSION
A clear protocol session
The CLEAR treatment starts a radiological study (done in a specialized clinic) with 8 different spinal projections and is followed by a complete physical exam. The information from this first visit is used to create a personalized treatment plan for each patient.
From here, each treatment session will last approximately two hours and has three phases, that are called, ¨Mix, Fix, and Set¨
MIX: The first phase is designed to prepare the body for the treatment. It includes warm-up exercises, mechanical message and other therapies designed to relax the muscles and the ligaments of the spine.
FIX: The chiropractic adjustment. In this phase the chiropractor will adjust segments of the spine and the extremities, based on the radiological results and the chiropractic exam. The chiropractor will use their hands and sometime mechanical instruments to improve the condition of the spine and thereby the nerve function.
SET: The third phase consists of specialized exercises that influence posture, balance and coordination. They activate specific muscle groups related to the spine, as well as specific areas of the brain. The improvement of nerve communication and the coordination changes the way in which the brain and body work together to achieve a better body balance.
MOBILITY EXERCISES FOR THE SPINE
The session starts with the patient doing warm-up exercises in the ¨Pettibon Wobble Chair¨
This is chair designed for active rehabilitation that turns in 360º around an axis. It improves the mobility and flexibility of the spine, increasing the metabolism and hydration of the intervertebral discs.
GENTLE TRACTION OF THE SPINE
These exercises improve the cervical lordosis, reducing the tendency to carry the head in a forward position. In addition, it helps relax the cervical paraspinal muscles and improve intervertebral disc metabolism.
Two therapies are included in this phase:
Vibratory Traction (VT): The patient lays down over specialized rolls under the cervical y and lumbar regions. The cushions are connected to a motor that produces a vibration at a constant vibration at low frequency (4.5 Hz).
The force of the mechanical vibration at 4.5 Hertz produces relaxation of the soft tissues and the separation of articular surfaces such that it helps restore the cervical and lumbar lordosis.
Mechanical Drop Piece (MDP):
The patient lays on top of a vibratory platform set at 6 Hz that contacts the rib arch (for primary thoracic curves). The MDP is used in lumbar spine (for primary lumbar curves) and is applied to the spinal and transverse processes to reduce rotation.
MECHANICAL THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE
In this phase our professionals will apply mechanical therapeutic massage over specific muscles and ligaments. The massage is guided by the scoliotic curve and is applied asymmetrically along the spine to relax soft tissues, eliminate fibrosis and favor the elimination of toxins.
THE ECKARD TABLE
The Eckard table is brings movement and traction to the whole body and improves the range of motion and flexibility. Positioning is based on the radiologic analysis of the patient, and generally the positioning is a mirror image of the x-ray.
The Eckard table was designed by Dr. Leander Eckard for the CLEAR Scoliosis Institute and is a combination of a Flexion/Distraction and a mechanical traction chiropractic table, that reduces scoliotic curves.
THE CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT
Through the chiropractic adjustment we achieve an improvement of the function of the patient and a better connection between the body and the nervous system.
A chiropractic adjustment is the method used exclusively by Doctors of Chiropractic to correct or reduce vertebral subluxations (small displacements of a vertebra that irritate the nerves).
It is a soft and specific movement in the vertebral column that the chiropractor does with his hands, with the help a special table, and in some occasions using an soft instrument, to correct the subluxation and re-stablish the correct communication in the nervous system.
TRACTION CHAIR FOR SCOLIOSIS
This chair was developed by CLEAR institute in 2004 and it combines the whole-body vibration (WBV) with vertical traction and lateral belts with opposing forces used to reduce the Cobb angle.
X-rays taken while patients were sitting in the traction chair show improvement in the spinal column rotation and the thoracic cage, and also a reduction in the Cobb angle.
THE VIBE (VIBRATORY PLATFORM)
Scoliosis is often associated with balance problems and coordination. The patient uses specially located weights to reduce spine deviations and to do balance and proprioceptive exercises.
SPECIFIC ISOMETRIC EXCERCISES FOR THE SPINE
Based on your case, will assign a series of daily isometric rehabilitation exercises to do at home, designed by CLEAR Institute.
The isometric exercises are done without movement, similar to some exercises in Iyengar Yoga. These exercises are much more effective for working the central muscles of the body that control posture and stabilize the spine.
